Ken Case @kcase:
FYI: Omni apps sync using the open WebDAV standard. (Our free @OmniSyncServer is just a cluster of Apache HTTP servers with WebDAV enabled.)

@kcase @omnisyncserver Does this imply a possible HTML5 interface? Would love cloud access via my Android phone.

Ken Case @kcase:
@jeffporten A web interface is possible, yes—in fact, @steiger already implemented one on his Spootnik WebDAV server: spootnik.net

David Weinberger @dweinberger:
Romney’s comment (dailykos.com/story/2012/09/) was probably about getting air in, not opening windows. No need to sink to his campaign’s level.

Glenn Fleishman @GlennF:
@dweinberger Being too nice. The windows can’t open for emergencies because of all the failure points. Very easy to understand why.

@GlennF @dweinberger BINGO! Still the best reason to vote Obama: the man uses his neurons. Not shown by GOP candidate since ’96.

Fraser Speirs @fraserspeirs:
My bank PIN is 4 digits but my bank’s app requires a 5-digit PIN. That I even feel the need to comment on this tells its own story.

@fraserspeirs It’ll be even funnier if zero-filling the left column works.

@Slate: NY’s teen pregnancy A LOT lower than MS. Maybe better sex ed is good?” // also, give teens something to do other than fucking

The Macalope @TheMacalope:
Sorry for the delaying posting today’s column. Apparently they let the Macalope’s editor go to “training”, if you can believe that.

Lex Friedman @lexfri:
@TheMacalope I’M SORRY I FAILED YOU

The Macalope @TheMacalope:
@lexfri I DIDN’T KNOW IT WAS YOU OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE JUST NUDGED YOU BUT YOU’RE SO CUTE WHEN YOU’RE ASLEEP

@TheMacalope Does @lexfri sleep? I though he just had a somnambulant state on his treadmill, during which he drops to only 20 WPM.

Twitter Is Finally Going To Let You Download All Your Old Tweets flpbd.it/ijDbG

@netfreedom @bendrath As part of my new “I don’t trust Twitter” kick, I’m still going to archive to my blog, TYVM.

Jesse Spector @jessespector:
Guess it makes sense that Canadian car ads give gas consumption in liters per 100 kilometers, but it’s still weird to American eyes.

@jessespector That’s the European standard as well. There’s a constant to do the conversion, which I can’t remember.

Jesse Spector @jessespector:
@jeffporten I’ve read proposals that we go to the same system. Don’t remember why.

@jessespector Switching to metric entirely would save US $billions a year. Been true since 1970s, when it failed utterly.

Jesse Spector @jessespector:
@jeffporten I meant on the gas mileage, specifically.

@jessespector Can’t think why that’d matter. Americans think “bigger numbers better”, not smaller.

Glenn Fleishman @GlennF:
To my ear, the iPhone 5’s speakers can produce a higher maximum volume and better sound. Just me?

Marco Tabini @mtabini:
@GlennF No, definitely not you. I was able to use it in the car at highway speeds today—something I cold never do with the iPhone 4.

@mtabini @glennf It’s not the iPhone. *Buying* an iPhone IMPROVES YOUR BODY’S GENETICS. iPhone 6 includes bionic vision and *boing* sound.

@verso: “Rats. Still rocking the Clompsters, but no more stitches and new socks. Also brief showers, no immersion. Follow up Friday.

@verso This tweet sounds like the script notes for a truly niche porn video.

@tpryan: “In fairness, porn is the dark matter of the internet. RT @ryanstewart: @schmidtkevinall @esulliva @tpryan Terry Ryan: porn peddler.

@tpryan Not that there’s anything wrong with porn peddling.

@flargh: “Youth ages, immaturity is outgrown, ignorance can be educated, and drunkenness sobered, but stupid lasts forever.” – Aristophanes

@flargh “Dude, I can see right through you.” – Cellophanes, the loser of argument

@mcelhearn:
Can anyone get a server to mount on login in Mountain Lion, by adding it to the Login Items, or by any other method? Nothing works for me.

@mcelhearn Try an AppleScript with launch delay?

@jeffporten It _should_ work if you drag a volume to Login Items. But it’s not working, and I need to know why for an article.

@mcelhearn Random guess: some interaction with FileVault2 and the new startup authentication order?

@jeffporten I’m not using FileVault.

@mcelhearn All out of ideas, but still in wakeup mode. I’ll try again when the caffeine kicks in.

Here’s what I’m seeing in Login Items when I log out, log in, after adding a network share. http://img.ly/nIYG

@mcelhearn Having seen the icon… network protocol? Wondering if login items occurs before network is fully initialized.

@jeffporten Perhaps, but others have no problem getting this to work.

@mcelhearn Perhaps their networks aren’t clogged with excellent cheese. Try script with delay 60 to isolate problem?

@GlennF :
Romney’s latest bullshit: the uninsured do get medical care! If they’re dying. http://boingboing.net/2012/09/24/romney-on-americas-uninsured.html

@GlennF He’s not for health care so much as he’s for exit interviews.

@jeffporten Oh my god. Too perfect.

@starstryder: Note on #EPSC12 wifi. You can’t use google phone number to get login code. Must use your phones actual number. Phone numbers can be reused

@starstryder That implies that they’ve got a backend db verifying #s. I’d be a bit concerned why they’re doing that.

@starstryder: @jeffporten it’s the EU. Privacy here means something a bit diff. We were told the SMS confirmation is to make sure only real pple use wifi

@starstryder I’m fairly certain the EU allows anonymous wifi. But also true you’re more protected while you’re there by the legal structure.

@jsnell: “Dear @VerizonWireless, please put a tower in my neighborhood by September 2014 when my next AT&T contract lapses. kthxbye

@jsnell Verizon signal problem solvable with Google Voice? Easy(ish) to route calls to landline/VoIP when out of range.

@jsnell: “@jeffporten waaay too much work, and doesn’t help when I step outside

@jsnell Or an el-cheapo disposaphone for that space between your front door and bus arrival.

@jsnell: “@jeffporten also vastly too much work.

@jsnell: “@jeffporten I want to stream audio when I walk to work–AT&T will let me, VZW won’t, no real workaround.

@jsnell I “solve” these problems with Google Voice, a 4G tether, and an iPod touch—implies I have a higher “too much work” threshold.

@jsnell Also, I rarely make phone calls and *very* rarely make urgent calls. So no question I’m outlier.

@jsnell: @jeffporten Yeah, IMO that’s a waste of time. A phone, or multiple gadgets and weird phone forwarding. No thanks…

@jsnell Paraphrasing Lawrence of Arabia: “Of course 4 devices ring at once. You just have to not mind that 4 devices ring at once.”

@jsnell: @jeffporten You’ve proven I don’t *have* to stay with AT&T, just that it’s the least shitty of my options.

@jsnell: @jeffporten I can be offended by AT&T’s policies, but it actually works. One device, one plan, fully functional.

@jsnell Even so, if your home has Sprint coverage, I’d wonder if a Virgin Mobile 2ndary wouldn’t help a switch.

@jsnell: “@jeffporten Again, multiple devices and hacky workarounds are even crappier than AT&T.

@jsnell Hey, when I’m unable to provide good advice, I always aim for “put craptacular in the right perspective.”

@GlennF: Going to be honest. Moments in the first 4 Dr Who episodes this season are good. Whole episodes? Not as much.

@GlennF I’m grooving on the companion relationship moments, and very impressed by the new companion first ep tease.
