Sign spotted on the men’s room at the Tropicana casino in Atlantic City, where NJ state law has outlawed smoking anywhere but on the casino floor:
“No Smoking Permitted: Violators will be subject to fine and/or termination.”
I presume the latter clause is referring to employees. If not, sheesh, smoking really is hazardous to your health.
The smoking ban should extend everywhere not just public buildings, restaurants, and bars. Yes, it is a huge health issue. Smokers don’t care because they don’t care about themselves as humans. They don’t realize how bad they smell because their nasal passageways are desensitized. It is up to the government to protect us from health hazzards that can be prevented. However, we have seen just how much the government is concerned. Smoking won’t ever be completely banned because the government receives some type of financial payoff.
Casinos are for adults. It’s their place to play and they should be able to do so as they see fit. No one has to work at a casino, so if smoking bothers you don’t work there, and also they have very nice areas for non-smokers. I’ve seen them everywhere, big, clean, smoke-free and usually empty!! As far as I’m concerned places like Atlantic City should allow smoking everywhere, it is not for children and don’t we have enough big-brother telling us what to do everywhere else!
To those who say the government should protect our health, please hand in your comunist ID tags at the boarder and get out af america, our constitution and bill of rights grants ALL americans the rights to choose, no one has a sacred right to enter a business, if that property owner wants to allow smoking it is their god given right to do so. thses laws are violating the civil rights of property owners and those who enact them should be put in jail. comunist countries tell people what they can and cant do, not america, i say treason!!
It’s the government’s job to protect those who can’t protect themselves. Innocent bystanders have no power to protect themselves from your smoke. Read the Surgeon General report on Secondhand smoking. You’re entitled to your rights, when they don’t infringe upon others. Your secondhand smoke hurts others, which is why it is (and should continue to be) outlawed in public places.
all of u anti smokers need to get a life and stop messing with us smokers.I thought that was good leave america you have no place here…….smokers hate u and your big brother don’t like you only when it comes to your tax dollars and elections.
I live in Canada where “Tobacco control” has got way out of control. 8 of Canada’s 10 province’s have smoking bans in all public places including casinos.
Some hospitals no longer allow patients to even smoke outside on hospital property. Nursing homes are smoke-free and there’ve been reports of elderly deaths due to exposure to the cold from someone going outside for a smoke!
Some apartment chains no longer allow smoking… in a person’s private residence!
I am sad to say that Canada has increasingly become a fascist state due to it’s “Tobacco control” policies in the public interest!
In response to the comment “smokers don’t care about their own health.” I don’t buy it, because that could be said about anyone who doesn’t get the doctor recommended amount of daily exersize, doesn’t eat enough fruits & veggies, eats too much junk food, etc… If that’s the case, no one really cares about their health!
The smoking laws are unconstitutional. It is a matter of the constitution. When the constitution can be altered for various reasons, it should just be ripped up. The entire anti smoking campaign is led by bitter, pathetic people. It is common sense that smoking isn’t good, but what is good? The birth of the nanny state is happening before your eyes. Common sense and parenting are being replaced by the government sticking their nose in the business of citizens.
